Weeds and my not-quite-right heart – original post here, updated below.

heart, weeds, faith, hope, love, grace, God, Jesus

It’s Hope Day friends, as you read along I pray you spot the hope between the weeds♥
As I walked around our home a few days ago I noticed a couple weeds.  By Sunday what I thought were just a few had turned into scads.
How could so many more appear in such a short time?
How? For starters I did not do anything about them…neglect, laziness, thinking it’s just a few – it’s not a big deal. I’ll get to them soon enough.

So it goes with my heart when I let strife, negativity, stress, judgment, do-nothingness creep in.

If I don’t stay on top of things, pretty soon things are on top of me, weighing me down.
It’s the do-nothingness that can sneak in the quickest. It isn’t really do-nothing, it’s more like do just enough.  You know – a quick prayer, a quick chat with God on the fly. Not taking negative thoughts captive, not extending grace.
Hmmm, sounds like pulling one or two weeds and wishing that would take care of it.
It took my husband a lot longer than two minutes to get all those crazy weeds and we/he will have to stay on top of it. It will be an ongoing pursuit.
It’s a good thing I love a God who lets me come to his throne of grace and mercy and start anew.
Over and over and over.
Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. – Hebrews 4:16 AMPC
Dear God, The garden of my heart is kinda weedy.  It is my own fault. I’m paying attention again. You will be my ongoing pursuit. AMEN.
But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you [truly] seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life. – Deuteronomy 4:29 AMPC
So what’s your 1,2,3 and 4?
1. Just enough is not enough, pulling one or two weeds isn’t the answer
2. If we don’t stay on top of things, pretty soon things are on top of us, weighing us down.
3. Make God your ongoing pursuit again, stay on top of the weeds
4. We can do all things with Christ’s help and strength
