Rest is a gift we choose for ourselves.
Rest – He refreshes and restores my life. How? According to scripture he makes me lie down, he wants me to rest. He knows that is how it must be. Rest, even He rested. Rest transforms us, right? Think of a toddler who desperately needs a nap. Are they not completely transformed into a sweet little human again, once they have rested?
That’s us friends. In order to be all God has created us to be, we must rest. You cannot pour from an empty cup, you cannot give what you do not have.
How can you make rest a priority today? What would it look like to rest? Closing your eyes for 5 minutes? Taking a walk? Taking a few moments to breathe in and out?
This message of rest was reaffirmed this morning during my daily devotional time. I just finished up “Next Steps to Fulfilling God’s Plan for Your Life” on YouVersion.
Excerpt from Day 5: Make no mistake about it. God wants His children to rest. When you rest, it allows you to replenish your physical, mental, and emotional strength that keeps you fighting the good fight of faith. In the book of Psalm, David gives the analogy of a shepherd making his sheep lie down and take a rest. A shepherd would do this in order to make sure his sheep were rested for the journey that was ahead of them. Sometimes the sheep would fight and struggle, but because the shepherd cared for the sheep, he would make them lie down.
Rested, refreshed, restored, renewed = Transformed. This is Life on Purpose.
