Want to create healthy habits that become lifestyle changes – Body, Mind and Soul?
Are you ready to learn what’s stopping you from creating habits that stick?
But first, why am I talking about habits anyway?
Body, Mind, Soul Fitness and Inevitable SUCCESS!
Today everything is coming at us at once and we can be instantly gratified pretty much on demand – Netflix, Amazon, Starbucks app and drive through. This however is not how a new habit is created. It takes time. In my coaching practice I call it the good, hard work.
How about embracing a new way to make a habit that becomes part who you are?
I can help you learn how to breakdown those new ways of being, into bit sized chunks.
Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. – Romans 12:2 AMPC
#BodyMindSoulFitness Creating healthy habits doesn't have to be so difficult. Let's walk through a few simple steps so you can successfully create a new way of being!

So how do we successfully make our healthy habits stick?
Focus on one new habit – Yep, just one.
Yes, we all think we are masters of multi-tasking and let’s just agree to lay that down for now. Get focused on one new thing.
Commit for 90 days – Put it on your actual schedule.
I know you’ve heard it takes 21 days to create a new habit, not actually true.
After 21 days the old habit and the new habit are on equal footing. Think of them as neck and neck in a race and the one you continue to nuture will keep moving forward.
After about 70 days the new pathway in your brain is primed.
Keep focusing on it, what you focus on grows.
And just to be fair, the amount of time for it to become who you are really depends from person to person and habit to habit. Some habits are simple and others require more time and focus. But there is no getting around the science, so commit.
Establish your why – And dig deep.
In order to create a habit that becomes part of your being, the why needs to be deeply important. Not an “I should” or a passing interest or fling.
If you want to spend more time in meditation, in scripture or simply alone with God, your why must be more than I’m supposed to or Everyone else is.
Why do you want to get to know God more? Journal this out, read your words out loud.
Side note as I write this ‘Lord I need You’ by Matt Maher♥ is playing. Perfect!
See for me, spending more time in prayer is because I need Him, His strength, guidance, wisdom. It’s a deep why, rooted in my heart. Without it I’m lost and sometimes cranky.
Figure out what its costing you to not make this change, what will you continue to lose by staying stuck?
Anchor those bad boys.
Anchor as in find something that helps remind you – if you want to drink more water get a fun water bottle, want to be more present – have a no phone zone box. Want to meditate? Find an amazing guided meditation, have a special spot, light a candle.
Now anchor them to your why. Have you decided to be more present to enjoy your family? Have a picture of them to remind you.
Set a reminder to pop-up on your phone that says “ My family rocks, I love spending time with them”. BTW my family does rock and I only wish I could spend more time with them♥
Take baby steps aka move the needle.
Again, if you want to drink more water start with one extra glass. If you want to stop mindlessly scrolling your phone, set a timer, put it in the no phone box. Or put it the box as soon as you come home. And set a time when you’ll be on it. Want to deepen your prayer life, start with 5 minutes or 5 more minutes.
Plan A, Plan B, Plan C
Make a plan – Life happens.
How will you be sure to keep taking those baby steps in the direction of your new way of being?
Drinking more water means having a bottle with you at all times and if you forget it, having a back up at work or stopping somewhere to grab one. If working out is your new routine, set yourself up for success. Are you best in the morning, schedule your work out then. Maybe evenings actually fit your lifestyle – okay, it’s on the calendar for after dinner. You get it. If the weather isn’t cooperating with your scheduled workout, what’s plan B? A video at the house, a class at the Y? Have your plan B. If you have a bad day and don’t feel like working out, have a plan C – no matter what I’ll walk for 10 mins.
Caution: If you haven’t uncluttered it will be tough to make space for the new. Take an inventory mentally of what could stop you from doing what you say you want to do. Clear it out – schedules, closets, mindsets – do the good hard work (that’s not actually so hard).
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC
Find someone or several someones to get on board with you. At the very least, tell other people what you are up to so they will ask you about it. Post your new way of being journey on the socials.
This is where a coach plays a huge role when making a complete lifestyle shift. I help keep my clients accountable to themselves.
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV
You set the goal, you created the new habit, you are living the new habit, it is who you are.
Time to celebrate! Have a dance party in the kitchen, treat yourself to a walk in the fresh air. Go to a favorite coffee spot or on a date with someone who makes you smile. Take time to recognize how awesome you are.
BE DO HAVE
Be the woman or man who _______________ (insert new habit to create here).
Think like they do, act like they do, speak like they do…
You will have ____________ (the benefits and experiences of the new habit).
My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments – Proverbs 3:1 AMPC
What do I do now?
In my private health coaching practice, I help clients discover what new habits they want to create, by going deep into why they need to make a change NOW. Unpacking what its costing them to stay where they are – Body, Mind and Soul.
Then I lead them through a step-by-step process to learn how to best start the habits, the best ways to move the needle and how to set themselves up for inevitable success.
