Transformation, slowing down and enjoying each bite!
Mindi here - sharing my own personal and very recent transformation.
I have no idea what took me so long to decide I needed to eat slower. I know my fitness coach Katie is saying Hallelujah. And I quote "I love to hear this!!!! What happens when you slow down with eating is that your body gets the signal that it can actually rest and digest food completely and fully!! Instead of eating in a rush where your body thinks there are other important things to think about other than digesting your food (AKA stores it as fat and doesn’t give you energy)".
Dang it! I've been cheating myself out of energy and storing extra fat.
I knew I was a fast eater. I just didn't see an actual problem with it. Until recently. I attended a very intimate wedding on Saturday, under 15 people including the Bride and Groom. As we sat down to eat, I did my normal, take a bite, keep holding my fork, chew and take another bite until the food is gone. Again, so what? Well number one, I was ready for seconds and NO ONE else was even finished with firsts, ugh. Number two, I then sat awkwardly with people I had just met, waiting until it felt appropriate to go back for more. Hear me friend - This isn't about dieting or how much I eat, it is about my body, being mindful of slowing down in all things and specifically when I eat, tasting what I eat, enjoying each bite, being present.
I didn't even pray about it, I knew the answer was yes, slow down. I did ask God to help me, remind me to slow down. I decided and I put the decision into action at my very next meal.
New plan - take a bite, put down the utensil, chew for like 30 seconds, take a drink, take a few breaths, talk a little and then take another bite. I'm transforming, being built, a work in progress. Guess what, its not so bad. I am enjoying my food more. Enjoying the company when I'm eating with others. Plus my body has way more time to say "Hey, were full!"
Body.Mind.Soul all three are getting self-care from this decision. Any way you look at it, it has Life on Purpose all over it.
May you be inspired to slow down a bit, wait a little longer, linger, savor, be present and transform.
In honor of the gorgeous pancake pic, one of my favorite simple recipes:
Makes 4 medium protien cakes:
1/2 c gluten free oats
1/2 c plain non fat greek yogurt
3 egg whites
1 t honey
1 t cinnamon
1/2 t vanilla
Blend in food processor.
Let sit a few minutes for maximum fluffiness.
Cook em' up in a pan.
I served mine with a little real maple syrup, a little almond butter, coconut...the sky is the limit!
