I hope you are offended.
I hope you are so offended, you do something about it.
I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook.
I love to use it to keep up with friends and family and the like. It is a fantastic tool for my business and for the backrowfaith community. I go to great efforts to seek out and post useful, fun, encouraging, salt and light kinda stuff.
I hate Facebook when people use it to drag others down, spread gossip and tragedy and complain continually without ever appearing to want to change circumstances or attitudes.
Two specific items popped up on my newsfeed today and “Now I have had enough” – said in my best serious Mom voice.
I know the world has horrific things happening in it every minute.
It also has us, children of God, beloved, chosen and called.
We have a choice. Perpetuate the garbage, the darkness or do what God wants us to do, what we are born for – be salt, be light, be love.
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18(NIV)
Fill your head with all the dark the world has to offer and soon enough it fills your heart and comes out of your mouth.
Obviously the same can be said for filling up on beauty and kindness and wisdom and grace and love.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. - Proverbs 4:23
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. - Matthew 12:34
Please don’t think I’m saying we should pretend bad things don’t happen. I’m not. I am saying we don’t have to tell everyone we encounter how crap something is. They know. What lots of folks don’t know is the amazing, unfailing, relentless love of Jesus. Share that. Our news outlets will share the news, which is mostly not good. Let them.
For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. - Philippians 4:8 (AMP)
So what’s your We’re not gonna take it 1,2,3?
#1 Be Salt
#2 Be Light
