I read this quote on Facebook last week and it stopped me in my tracks. The more I thought about it the more it took my breath away.
Not only is it on constant replay in my head but it has stopped me from opening my mouth to let any old words fall out.
Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you]. Colossians 4:6 (AMP)
Truth be told, I swear. I use one word in particular that I absolutely do not want written across my body, anywhere. I know I shouldn't, I go for long periods without, but then I get lazy and take the guard off my mouth and F-bombs a plenty. Work in progress here people.
Even though the F-word is at the top of the "Worst tattoo ever" list there are plenty of others - jugdemental, gossiper, unkind, unforgiving.
Yes, I do think some crappy things on occasion, most of us do - but just picturing some of the words appearing across my forehead compelled me to stop thinking them, much less saying them. It's an unending battle to control your thoughts and words - but always worth it. Thank God, God forgives us when we blow it. Each new day is another chance to live a life of worship. To speak life.
Using our words to give, love, build-up, forgive - this should be our mission. Simple yet profound.
A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit. Proverbs 15:4 (AMP)
Your "It's written all over your face?" 1,2,3
#1 Think about what you are thinking about
#2 Think before you speak
#3 Be beautiful, inside and out.
